Web Redesign

Project Management, Art Direction, UX/UI, Webflow

Project Overview

Mínut is a Swedish tech startup that has developed a powerful sensor for predicting short-term rental impacts on home security.

One of Mínut’s business objectives is the redesign of their website, prompted by a shift in business strategy and a rebranding initiative. The old design of Mínut’s website could no longer deliver their main goals as the focus is to move from B2C to B2B audience. The pages also had a complex structure with an excess of blocks. Too heavy with text and dated, unsightly design elements, the web pages did not look or feel inviting at all. Thus, the website suffered increased bounce and started to show terrible conversion rates.

My Contributions

I led the web redesign project from conception through design to launch. Read my case study below to learn how I collaborated with various stakeholders to create innovative integration strategies and ensure their successful implementation.

Timeline

I employed a GANTT chart to aid in visualizing the scheduling, management, and monitoring of specific tasks and resources within a project. This chart comprises a comprehensive list of tasks with bars representing the progress of each task. Such charts serve as valuable tools for planning projects and establishing the sequence of tasks to be completed. Additionally, they assist in identifying potential bottlenecks and uncovering tasks that may have been overlooked in the project timeline.

New Information Architecture

In the initial phase of redesigning the website, I comprehensively analyze the content and functionality of the old site. This entails conducting research, comparing with competitors, and organizing, structuring, and labeling content in a manner that is both effective and sustainable.

In order to create these systems of information, I need to understand the interdependent nature of users, content, and context. This involves conducting user interviews, creating journey maps, performing empathy exercises, and identifying patterns and insights.

New branding and tone of voice

Mínut’s web rebranding will be characterized by consistent visual elements, clear messaging that tells our customer who we are, and a user-friendly UI and UX experience. We should always build emotional connections with our target audience and create a recognizable experience lasting for years.

For example, Mínut’s new website overarching messaging will prominently feature terms such as "co-host," "home," "guests," and "communities." We also aim to avoid the word ‘monitoring’ as it sounds too invasive and replace this keyword with ‘detection’. The tone of voice should be warm and friendly, simple, positive and neutral.

The overall content should go hand in hand with SEO optimization as well. Without high quality content, the website would struggle with gaining organic traffic.

SEO Optimized

At this stage, we strive to comprehend the terminology our audience employs when researching short-term rental products, services, or related topics on search engines.Subsequently, we devise a strategy to target the optimal terms, aiming to improve our website's ranking on Google search. We prioritize shorter keywords to increase search volume, while utilizing fewer long-tail keywords for specific searches. Our approach emphasizes the creation of high-quality content while avoiding keyword stuffing, and we also optimize images for enhanced visibility.

Migration to Webflow

After assessing our objectives, we embarked on the search for a SaaS application featuring a CMS that could be seamlessly developed.Following extensive evaluation, we discovered that Webflow fulfilled all our criteria. Subsequently, we conducted thorough testing of Webflow to ensure its suitability as our chosen platform.

Moodboard

I gathered inspiration from various website visuals to give stakeholders an idea of my vision and demonstrate how we can incorporate similar concepts into Mínut’s new website.

Wireframes

Afterward, I initiate the creation of prototypes, which serve as experimental models of the proposed solution, streamlining the future development process. This step aims to elicit feedback and facilitate iteration before finalizing the design.

To view my previous work on Mínut’s web redesign, click here to access my figma files (the working files only consist of the landing page).

Once the wireframes are confirmed, I then start working on high fidelity mockups which involves including the rebranding of colours, typography, imagery and content.

Design components

I also begin by crafting UI design elements that serve to direct user interactions, convey information effectively, and elevate the visual allure of the interface.

Certain design components are also adaptable for mobile applications as well, thus requiring close collaboration with the product team to ensure adherence to accessibility standards. I then used accessible web to audit and monitor accessibility issues and make sure they are WCAG compliant.

Internal review & Testing

At this stage, I conduct an end-user scenario testing on the website to evaluate its behavior. Following a meticulously crafted test plan outlining a series of distinctive scenarios, we engage in manual website testing.

Our QA testing encompasses usability, compatibility, cross-browser functionality, responsiveness, accessibility, and performance assessment.

Launch

After the website successfully clears QA testing, the marketing team and I initiate plans for its launch. Timing is crucial, as the website's relaunch should coincide with periods of low visitor traffic.

Monitoring

Followed by the launch of the website, I worked closely with the marketing, product and support team to monitor the site of its functionality and address any maintenance needs promptly.

We run regular checks for bugs or errors, and ensure webpages load as quickly as they did on day one and adapting to changing SEO strategies by tailoring new and existing content to provide more value to visitors to stay relevant.

Outcome and result

We successfully improved our traffic KPIs following the launch of the new design. We reduced the bounce rate, increased session depth by 8%, and extended average session time by 14%. Additionally, we significantly enhanced conversion rates, achieving a 300% increase in MQL (marketing qualified leads) conversions and a 71% boost in overall organic traffic.

We secured the top spot on Google search results for keywords such as 'noise monitoring short term rental’.

We also received positive feedback on the rebranding from Mínut’s customers.

Takeaways

I realized that no part of the design phase should be overlooked, regardless of how small the task may seem. Initially, I underestimated the importance of content and concentrated more on the design aspect. This oversight hindered the project due to disagreements about user communication and SEO optimization.
The most important takeaway is the need to communicate clearly why your technology matters, and how it can affect their world. Copywriting is an essential part of our digital marketing strategy. It can capture the attention of our target audience, tap into their emotions, build curiosity, and excite them into taking action. It can also increase brand awareness, generate higher-quality leads, and help you acquire new customers.
